What I believe

These are the five things I believe about working with AI. If you think one is wrong, tell me.

AI is a tool

AI is the most capable thinking machine humans have built. Still, it is a tool, which means the output depends on your skill. The clearer you are about what you want, the more the output serves your needs.

Certainty is not accuracy

We read quick, detailed answers as a sign of knowledge. AI presents this way whether or not the answer is right. So we have to judge substance on its own.

You raise the quality

Quality used to come from the effort we put into reaching our goals. AI carries some of that effort now. The new skill is weighing what the output is worth and instructing AI to match it.

Answers are yours to own

The less detail a question needs, the better a common answer serves. Ask for finer detail, or ask something personal, and your preferences decide. This responsibility is what makes the work yours, so spell out what you are after.

Thinking is exercise

Abilities grow and stay through use. Machines took the physical effort out of work, so exercise became a choice. AI is doing the same to thinking.

Choose an intellectual practice you enjoy, and keep your mind in use.
